3. Add a Connection

To add a connection to a network drive, you need the following information in advance:

  • Path for the connection, here it is possible to access classically SMB shares like \\192.168.0.1\D$, or alternatively via Webdav. FTP and SFTP are currently not supported
    • For connections with WebDav, please do not forget the port. Example: https://Link_zur_Freigabe_oder_DDNS:webdavport in case of Strato this would be for example https://webdav.hidrive.strato.com

The connection to a http webdav works as well in case of need, but is not recommended due to the missing encryption and should only be used in exceptional cases.

  • The user for this connection. If you want to use the current Windows user, no entry is required here
  • The password for this connection. If you want to use your Windows user names for this connection, no input is required

User names and passwords are usually not required, especially in an Active Directory managed network, because your possible shares have already been defined by the administrator. In this case, user name and password are not to be used in any case, because otherwise you would have to adjust your connections again after changing your password, depending on the password policy.

If username and password have been used for connection, there is a possibility to share the connection you have established for all users of this computer.
